Ok, no stupid comments needed for this one! The Asians make some awesome, cheap products. They more often than not come with instruction manuals no one can decipher and ridiculous names.

Anyhow: I promised myself one torch and one torch only. And this is it:

Johnlite Captain Searcheye

Captain Searcheye (for want of any better description) is one BFT! The lens diameter is about 25cm or so, and the overall length of the body is roughly 40cm. It features a convenient carry handle, a nylon strap, an adjustable stand and the unit is splashproof. The torchcompact fluorescent floodlight is supplied with two charging adapters, one for standard 220V AC/DC and one for use in a vehicle lighter socket. Each has its own plug on the body of the torch.

The removable lead acid batter is pretty heavy, as is to be expected, and powers the unit for about 45 minutes. The battery is charged in about 12 hours and the vehicle lighter adapter may be used to power the unit whilst it is charging. Good for those slow-cruising neighbourhood watch operations at midnight ;-) I wouldn’t recommend charging for 12 hours from your car’s battery, though!

The floodlight (Model No. 2941) is rated to provide a beam of 15,000,000 candlepower. Trust me: this is enough to illuminate almost anything within a 100m radius. Pity about the battery life. Quite awesome, and probably the only torch I’ll ever need.
