IE only to do business with us

I do my best to support local companies that I feel are doing the right thing. Cyberdyne is a direct to public importer of computer components offering reasonable prices and decent customer service. Their online store is taking an eternity to be up and accessing their new website is hugely disappointing.

Browsing that website with anything other than the dreaded Internet Explorer pops up a rather annoying message box:

I use Firefox exclusively, even on the Mac, though Safari obviously wouldn’t manage here either. My home system is a Linux system and I can’t natively run IE on that, plus I refuse to run IE in Wine or VMWare. My opinion is that people who take the time and effort to purchase computers in component form to are unlikely to just use Windows and IE. In fact, such hacksterists are more likely to run a Mac or Linux. No IE, then. That makes the business model Cyberdyne is toying with rather dicey: no IE, no price guide download, no order. Ergo, no business.

Interesting that anyone in the e-business game nowadays would bet the farm on proprietary browser technologies. Cyberdyne: get your browser support straightened out!

Lamborghini Estoque

Lamborghini announced a super car with a difference at the Paris Motor Show. The Lamborghini Estoque is currently a concept, but chances are very good that the four door car will be produced and sold to those who can afford it – the estimated list price is in the region of USD 200000.

The four doors are not the only interesting feature of this Lambo – it’s supposed to provide the performance of a Gallardo with the comfort of a sedan. And it may well be a hybrid. In keeping with its bullfighting heritage and naming convention, the name Estoque refers to the sword used by a matador to kill a bull.
